18.  Alena Santgor with great abstraction colorist Sonia Delaunay  balance in a reality of color chaos.

This balance is difficult to achieve.  Color in its nature unless unabstracted is chaotic.  It is a whirlwind of visual stimuli, no matter how imposing the color sections may be.  Alena has achieved a high level of color balance with abstraction of emotional visions, so color, as it is want, quite takes over viewer attention movements.  You simply cannot escape this whirlwind that does not look the whirlwind.

Her muse lives in a watery world of koi below the surface of a vast garden pond, or focused on objects upon the surface, lotus blossoms whipped into brilliant colorist singing.  The work is done by blade and brush, the weight of their power, carried by color.  Separated into eye entrancing manichaean genius.  Thank thee forever painting in the first place!  Keeping general and assumed order from her wall.

These might then be deemed her lead up to the wildly abstracted bladrwork later.  Separating the color into huge emotional objects.  Color makes a person feel things.  Color is indeed a whirlwind for the eye of the art viewer.  Trick is not letting the whirlwind destroy whatever level of order you have created out of the madness.

She had done this, so many years before our new Baroness.  But if the generations do not recieve the gift of the tools, they are not passed.  Indeed, mayhaps not spoken.  Baroness Alena, hath led us back to Delaunay as if by prophecy.  She saw, all those years ago, the effect of wild spectral separations, making blends that were not blends, but choices for the eye.  Many thought it then spoke to other art forms, as jazz.  She is known in this light by the “Take 5” album cover for Brubek.

We as artists must constantly search for the evolution in other forms like painting to jazz.  Does the piece seem to represent jazz?  These notes seem to reflect the brilliant life of jazz.  Jazz that hath escaped the staff paper, to sing emotions to you, for that is color and shape.  But we have only looked at the dazzling end of her body of work, let us go back to more formative years.  1st, let’s talk some more about our chosen artiste!

Color is it’s own motivation and toolbox.  It is no one thing.  Here an effect in color I call ‘flashing’.  Flashes of color in fact do no one thing!  Here they sing a very Renoir like dream lullaby to put you to sleep to dream of the secret garden.  When you awake you will still have this wonder, if you purchase it.  It is indeed seminal of what we at least think came later.  The thing about flashing is it is obviously to guide you around the canvas.  Obviously this could turn out gloriously well, or not so much.  Color placement can never really be random as the chaos which birthed it.

Color is the artist’s servant and hath no life of it’s own.  Wherein new artist are now taking and looking at the tool to say.  Color is enough, let it make the rules.  They fling paint at canvases.  Is this art?  Depends what color and how much is thrown!  No matter how much an artist tries to give color it’s own life, it inevitably seeks a subject, a philosophy.  Fine critics can actually disdain accidental abstractions from intentional ones.  Your lesson is to figure out how they do that.  What’s the difference?  Just fling the first can you see!  Don’t count on it.

Here everything we know, separates into bright impasto strokes, each one a mature weight carrier.

I cannot delve into these globs of paint, they are neither homogeneous nor accidental! Bathe in their light!

She must spend days at a time by the water gardens, how lucky we are to see him pass on his 4 wings! The day is fine and the sun is high for painting.

At first, you may probably have a bit of time recognizing your child among so many siblings, she was voluminous.  Makes whatever we say an iceberg tip.   My mnemonic for the above?  The big gray superman!  Note the texture of the gray section.  This, all these years later, we are teaching in a colorism class, and this sectionality is still wowing art fans and collectors.  This estate is powerful, and multi-museum loaned out.

Delaunay had too many sides for obligatory classification.  Some had a similar stoplight, crop circle feel, and that’s reductive.  They are wonderful conjoined portals, bi-rings of light.

Here oranges and greens emerge as dominant.  Below feels the influx of dark.  Of blue, purple, and gray it cools the eye.  Controlling the viewers attention is only important if you dont want him or her to walk away!  Transfixed Princess Delaunay!

I also said the alien circus of 3 ringed color light, looked like stop lights.  Well yes, for some wild driver cat daddy.  Do you feel yourself slipping into beat culture.  Art and color have been your tour guide.

Once you see a style within yourself, no matter how far and wide you have brushed, you should feel empowered to marry the goddess and settle down with a single style. It would seem anathema to such as Yarl Laura Owens, but I say to her royslness, variance of styles IS your style! Find yourself, like yourself and then paint yourself bravely, what’s to fear? The New York Art Critics Guild? Naaaah!

Most important to teach here, is that context and color were incredibly balanced in Princess Sonia.

Let’s return to a brief study of Le Baroness!

Schools represent a moment of changing light and color. Tpu catch their motion on your eye, just as you wish you could do with the art viewer eye.

Her style tools merge as the light dancers become almost huge mature single strokes as is become her namesake it seems in our assay.

However, it is only when both subject light and color confluence to form beauty, that the easel must be set, and work, in this state, light, accomplished as they say a sin is accomplished. It will always have apologists who only wish to possess! Sell it well Your Grace!

She lives in that flash of light, the light seen in a painting is less than a millisecond!

No subject is verboten. I am King Paris, thou art made into the excalibur of strokes! Be ye mountain, or bovine maiden! Wait now I’m sounding like ‘Crouching Tiger’ art review guy! OK, you get it, take your time, choose against le Baroness, choose a subject, it doesn’t matter, she is the freakin’ Orange Destiny! Today New York, tomorrow, Paris! Enough with the metaphor, let’s look at more!

They are delicate and short lived in time. They are wherever you are at the moment children, everywhere the artist sees is art.

As you use the power of surprise, take it to your canvas, do not change your stroke! Fish do not change their scales. Look back on the first of that name. Would you be so to them, and start them over, for some tool you picked along the path, no! You discovered yourself a long time ago, now accept your art self, improve yes, destroy, well…in that case you didnt learn anything.

In the end it must be said, unto all ye students of arte, subject doesnt matter as much as the style of your brush, and such boson bovines can get thee the crown of Paris (that will be). We must indeed fight on both these fronts, art and justice, but a simple ruminate painting can win the high throne!
